🎉Picking a special wine to drink on our anniversary is always one of my favorite moments! We were lucky to get married in the mythic vintage of 2010. As much as I hate to see the cellar deplete, this wine choice was right on the money!

🌱#brunorocca @luisa_rocca is a winery that meticulously pays attention to every detail both in the vineyards and cellar. They make this flagship #Barbaresco from the top site vineyard #Rabaja which is historically considered one of the “grand crus” in Barbaresco.

🍷At first it was open, expressive and smoky and then turned into black cherries and black licorice. The finish was out of this world but possessed that unbelievable power all within a very light feel on the palate! 98/100

🐙Tip: Barbaresco can even be paired with seafood dishes like grilled polpo (octopus)!@ristorantemonviso

Cannubi - One of the most prized 🏆vineyards of

Cannubi - One of the most prized 🏆vineyards of Barolo in the town of Barolo.

Comes from the name Canubbio (marriage) although I know it reminds most people of Obi Wan Kenobi! 💫It is a marriage of the two sides of Barolo, the Tortonian softer aromatic and younger side blended with the Helvatian more austere tannic side from the older poorer soils.

🩰Cannubi Barolos are known for that perfect balance of power and finesse.

Today @open_piedmont_tours and I were so lucky to have tasted not just one or two Barolo Cannubis but :
Barolo Cannubi 2017 & 2014, Barolo Cannubi Riserva 2015 & 2013 & 2012. What a special treat to taste with the family @fratelliborgogno_barolo who have been running this winery since the late 1800s.

🍷The winery would be considered a historical and traditional winery that ferments in “tinos” conical oak barrels for 25-45 days with submerged cap. The Barolos are aged in 50-25 hl “botti” or big barrels by @garbellottobotti. These wines need time as the acid and tannin will be noticeable like a true old school Barolo.

If you are ever visiting the hospitality is fantastic as are the views and wine tasting experience!

Since we are not shipping wines in the summer we have to stay busy by creating educational content for our #wineclubmembers!

Claudio and I went out to talk to the Fratelli Grasso, 2 brothers Afredo and Luigi who are a quirky duo like Laurel and Hardy. When I asked these “fratelli” how old they were, they said,
“Don’t worry, we were still born in the 1900s 🤣.”

🍷We love this guy @ugo.lequio because of his honest and carefree nature. He makes one Barbaresco from one of the most well known “crus” in Neive, Gallina and only in certain years a riserva.

🍋No saying is more appropriate during these times than “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.

🍷It was only our second year of the #barolowineclub and we were doing it more as a hobby and passion. It wasn’t quite up to my standard and then BAM… Corona hit.

😢My main tour business @italiannawinetours was pretty much dissolving beneath my eyes.

💪🏼However… thanks to this, we had to step it up and make the best out of the situation. We worked hard to improve our club and it has paid off! We are loving this new job and it has even taken up so much time and space in our lives that I am not sure if I can take on tours anymore. It’s hard because my instinct tells me to jump back on the tour bandwagon as Italy is opening up!

🙇‍♀️This has brought me close to the decision that I will only do tours for wine club members in the future, or at least that is our goal!

✔️Some can even be secret baby barolos like Cavallotto’s 2014 when they didn’t bottle their single vineyard Barolos because of weather.
