 THANKSGIVING WINE PAIRING

Our shipments have just gone out and will arrive just in time to impress your friends and family for Thanksgiving! But just in case you want some extra guidance or want to order any of these wines from the selection individually we would be happy to do it! I will share what I think will be the best Thanksgiving pairings including wines from the last selection.

STARTERS

CHARCUTERIE BOARDS, ROASTED ARTICHOKES, VEGETARIAN QUICHES

Sparkling wines are always the best way to kick off the Thanksgiving dinners. The bubbles make it a fun and go well with all the rich foods and keep your palate fresh while waiting for the next wines!

White: MARCALBERTO  – ALTA LANGA 2019 Millesimato. This award winning traditional method style wine is a great celebratory wine to start the evening. (WHITE & SPARKLING PACK)

Red: ERPACRIFE – SPARKLING NEBBIOLO ROSE’. The tannins from the Nebbiolo grapes give this sparkling wine enough structure to match up to cheeses and meats even throughout the meal. An incredibly versatile wine. (WHITE & SPARKLING PACK + EVERY DAY PACK)

PASTA DISHES

PUMPKIN TORTELLINI, LASAGNA BOLOGNESE, PAPPARADELLE WITH MUSHROOM RAGU’

Fresh pasta dishes go great with medium bodied wines with good acid making these the perfect choice from our selection.

White: Ghiomo InPrimis Arneis coming from more selected grapes and longer aging making it rich enough for a pasta based on pumpkin or a vegetable risotto (WHITE & SPARKLING PACK)

Red: Delinquent Losna has mostly Barbera in the blend but has a nice freshness and drinkability which makes it a perfect palate cleanser for many classic pasta dishes. (EVERY DAY PACK)

Cascina Gilli Albugnano with its Nebbiolo base would also make a great choice for a richer mushroom based pasta dish since it is spicier and has more tannic structure. (EVERY DAY PACK)

ENTREES & SIDES

TURKEY WITH ITALIAN STUFFING

Technically the wine would change with whether you are eating dark or light meat turkey but lets just say that in general a low tannin, fruity wine would be just perfect.

White: Ghiomo In Primis (Arneis) or Reis Timorasso Both these whites are creamy but with enough minerality and acid to cleanse the palate from all the intense flavors of the vegetables, stuffing and white meat. (WHITE & SPARKLING PACK + EVERY DAY PACK)

Red: Gian Luca Colombo Pinot Noir is a Piedmont version of a Pinot Noir, perfect for Thanksgiving foods with nice fruit, silkiness without an exageration of tannins. For something more “important” Barbaresco is always the answer! The 2019 Asili Barbaresco from Luisin or 2016 Riserva from Punset would also work nicely since it is a very fruity and open vintage. (EVERY DAY PACK + MIXED PIEMONTE PACK + BAROLO & BARBARESCO PACK)

BRUSSEL SPROUTS, GREEN BEANS, MASHED POTATOES

Needs a white with good acid, strong character and perhaps slight vegetal flavours. Here we could do:

White: Chionetti Langhe Riesling which is bursting with flavor and high acid or Reis Timorasso which is a bit richer on the palate but with good minerality. (WHITE & SPARKLING PACK + TIMORASSO)

Red: Delinquent Losna with its blend of light fruity Barbera, Freisa and Grignolino. Just like its blend the wine covers many tastebuds and can pair with a wide range of vegetarian dishes as well. (EVERY DAY PACK)

DESSERTS

PUMPKIN PIE

By the end of the meal you will want something fizzy and fun that adds lightness to the desserts. In this case we thought these would go really well!

White: Garbarino Moscato d’Asti Fruity and sweet on the nose with honey and a bit of herbs this dessert wine is refreshing and fun to drink!

Red: Cascina Gilli Malvasia  is a sweet frothy Moscato like wine but coming from the red grape Malvasia in Alessandria. It is a fun soda pop surprise that will go great with your dessert table at Thanksgiving.
