👀This week has been an intense week of trying n

👀This week has been an intense week of trying new wines with the intent of discovering something new and possibly choosing a few for our Barolo Wine Club selections.

👯‍♀️One of the highlights was visiting a new winery called @lalu.wine which comes from the two best friends’ names Lara and Luisa who have started this adventure in Serralunga d’Alba.

📚Both were roommates during their studies at @unisg_official in Pollenzo and studied #viticulture.

👩‍🌾After experiences @trediberri and in Burgundy, these determined 2 have found an old garage/workshop where they can make their wines.

🍷Right now they have a #barberadalba and #langhenebbiolo . They are making important decisions about the wines every day and are experimenting with what works best like fermenting in concrete or tinos, refining in big barrels or used barrique, full cluster fermentations etc. The results are fantastic and you can’t help but feel the Burgundian influence.

🙌🏻We are so excited about this up and coming winery who will release their first #barolo in 2023 with the 2019 vintage.

They have known each other since high school (and, for two of them, since they were five years old). They have lived and studied together in Turin and are familiar with each others strengths and quirks. They have grown up around, and fully expected to be involved in, the production of wines made from Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto. They all (with one exception) have day jobs at Langhe or Monferrato wineries. They share a passion for the wines of their respective regions.

They decided to do a project as a group and wanted it to be something challenging. Given cost and availability constraints, it most likely could not be in Barolo. It was within this context that six friends decided to embark on a venture to make a wine (white) from an unfamiliar grape (#Timorasso) in an unfamiliar region (Colli Tortonesi). So was born the Reis #Derthona.

The Timorasso venture is a testament to the friendship as well as the potential of the Timorasso from Colli Tortonesi. The friends are:
Simone Revello -- third generation of Barolo producer Revello Fratelli
Francesco Bianco -- Bovio
Luca Monti - Brovia
Luca Amerio -- Scarpa
Matteo Laiolo -- Vinchio-Vaglio Serra

🙋🏻‍♀️Hey Hey! Are you new around here? Or maybe you’ve been in my nebbiolo loving Piemonte tribe for a while but still wonder... Who’s this Barolo Wine Club girl. Well here’s a few fast facts about me:

🇺🇸1. I grew up in an Italian American family in Sonoma and then later on moved to Napa.

🇮🇹2. I moved to Italy to teach English but fell in love with THIS wine region (and one of my students 😉).

🍇3. Visited hundreds of local wineries, self taught, did wine courses, worked at Barolo wineries until I finally had the courage in 2013 to open my own wine tour business @italiannawinetours and my own wine club!

🍷@reis.wine - The first vintage that a group of young Barolo winemakers and friends decided to make just for fun. They buy the grapes from the Tortona hills in Alessandria and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some since you can’t find them practically anywhere!These are the treasures I love finding!

😫I had too many people screaming at me while trying to escape in my own little paradise so I was not able to write proper tasting notes. What I can say is that this wine was delicious. Nice medium body but with that razor sharp acid - Just my style!

The choice of the label of the Barolo Ravera Vigna Elena has a strong emotional value for the Cogno family: Elena was the little author, drawing a chick 🐥 at the age of three for her mother Nadia and father Valter, and it has since become the symbol of the wine.

🍃I love taking visitors and Barolo lovers to @rivetto_wines where you can see the compost, sit on the swing, and pet the animals. Enrico is the only certified biodynamic winery in Barolo. The land is so valuable nowadays that most farmers would never consider planting potential Nebbiolo vineyards with orchards or animal pastures. We really admire Rivetto’s dedication to creating a healthy and balanced ecosystem even if it could be considered “folle” or crazy by many!
