With decades of experience behind him, Flavio Roddolo represents one of the last old school winemakers in the Langhe. Working completely outside of modern commercial logics, he has remained faithful to an almost forgotten way of making wine, slow, uncompromising, and deeply rooted in time. Rather than releasing wines according to market timing or fixed ageing schedules, he chooses to bring them to market only when, in his own judgment, they are ready to be enjoyed at their best (or maybe just forgets about them sometimes:).

His current releases reflect this philosophy with his Dolcetto, a 2017 vintage which can defy people’s belief that you can’t age a Dolcetto. A 2013 Barbera and Nebbiolo while his unique Cabernet Sauvignon, Bricco Appiani, is currently the 2011! His Barolo, produced in extremely limited quantities of around 3,000 bottles per vintage, is currently released with the 2015 vintage, always when he feels it has reached its full expression and balance.

Roddolo’s estate is small and isolated, and his production so limited that each release feels more like a personal archive than a commercial product. There is no pursuit of trends, no adaptation to market pressure, only a steadfast commitment to land, time, and memory. His wines require patience not only in their making, but also in their appreciation, rewarding those willing to slow down and engage with a more traditional rhythm. At times they are not perfect wines but they are full of soul.

In many ways, opening a bottle of Flavio Roddolo is less about tasting a wine and more about entering a different pace of the Langhe, where readiness is defined not by time, but by the winemaker’s sense of harmony, balance, and expression.

FLAVIO RODDOLO ALLOCATION

By signing up for an allocation, you will receive the wines every year from your favorite winemakers. Your allocation will include one or two bottles per type as part of a full set from the winery you have selected. The idea is for us to make it easy and less stressful for you to find these rare bottles because you know we will be holding them just for you every year.

Some of the rarest labels are available for wine club members only, while others are open to everyone. The standard size of the packages are 6 bottles although in some cases there is the possibility of ordering a family size (12 bottle pack).

Move quickly as some of the limited allocation possibilities we have are almost all taken. You can always write to us and we will put your name on a waiting list. To get your allocation a minimum of 2 years is required.
